Carpark pollutant yields from first flush stormwater runoff

چکیده

• Urban carparks produce runoff with different pollutant characteristics. Vehicle traffic influence contaminant concentrations in first-flush stormwater. The highest yields originated from a high-traffic industrial carpark. Traffic characteristics metal partitioning and species ratios. Design of stormwater treatment systems should consider carpark Stormwater be treated to remove pollutants before they enter urban waterways; however, differences surrounding land use activities can result varying first flush types requiring specific approaches. An understanding potential variations is necessary design adequate systems. over 20 events three (university, hospital industrial) Christchurch, New Zealand were thus analyzed for Total Suspended Solids (TSS) heavy metals (Zn, Cu Pb) year. Pollutant found vary across the carparks, which largely driven by such as count, size vehicles, topography. Mean (both dissolved particulate) TSS significantly higher than other two had statistically similar mean concentrations. Specific ratios (Zn:Cu, Zn:Pb) relatively high carpark, indicating greater contribution wear tear large commercial vehicles. total Zn wash-off when it was non-operational (passive) lower operational (active), confirming that increase vehicular activity. Rainfall antecedent dry days rain intensity duration only have low positive correlation all carparks. findings this study highlight importance considering implementation on-site

A traditional first flush assessment of E. coli in urban stormwater runoff.

The behaviour of microorganisms in urban stormwater should be thoroughly investigated and understood to (a) design treatment technologies that can reduce the human health risks of utilising stormwater and (b) develop models which can accurately predict the levels of microorganisms in urban stormwater to aid in health risk assessments. A crucial part of understanding the behaviour of pollutants ...

First-flush loads of perfluorinated compounds in stormwater runoff from Hayabuchi River basin, Japan served by separated sewerage system.

Worldwide environmental pollution by perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) has been reported. PFCs have also been reported to have nonpoint sources (NPSs). A fixed-point hourly monitoring in the river was conducted during a storm event using an automatic sampler to estimate the impact of the first-flush of PFCs from NPS in this study. Perfluorocarboxylates (PFCAs) and perfluoroalkyl sulfonates (PFASs...

The temporal changes in road stormwater runoff quality and the implications to first flush control in Chongqing, China.

This study investigates the quality of stormwater runoff from a driveway in the southwest mountainous urban area of Chongqing, China, from 2010 to 2011. The results showed that the mean concentrations of chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) were 4.1, 2.4, and 2.2 times the grade V levels of the national surface water standard of China. The pollutant conce...

Effects of Stormwater Runoff from New Development

Most people know that urban runoff is a problem. Few understand just how harmful it can be for rivers and streams. To secure better watershed planning urban runoff control, we must first convince the public and its officials that they are needed. We need to show clearly and convincingly both the nature and the magnitude of the water quality and quantity problems that poorly planned and managed ...

Stormwater Runoff Pollutant Loading Distributions and Their Correlation with Rainfall and Catchment Characteristics in a Rapidly Industrialized City

Fast urbanization and industrialization in developing countries result in significant stormwater runoff pollution, due to drastic changes in land-use, from rural to urban. A three-year study on the stormwater runoff pollutant loading distributions of industrial, parking lot and mixed commercial and residential catchments was conducted in the Tongsha reservoir watershed of Dongguan city, a typic...
